Dear Friends,Last week the TCS 8th grade students along with a few 7th grade students competed in the Greater San Diego Science and Engineering Fair. This regional competition challenges students to research, design, and present innovative, real-world solutions to panels of judges who are professionals in their respective fields. GSDSEF as it is also known, encourages young scientists to explore their interests and apply their talents. 198 Junior Division (7th-9th grade) student exhibitors submitted projects from 24 schools across San Diego County. Every one of our students who submitted a project had the honor of being accepted and most chose to compete. All of our competing students placed in their categories and five qualified for Broadcom MASTERS, a nationwide premier middle school science and engineering fair competition. This is thanks to the dedication of Diana and her ability to guide and inspire her students. 2022 Awards Grand Award Winner – Life Sciences,Broadcom MASTERS NomineeCalifornia Science and Engineering Fair (State) Nominee1st Award Junior Division – Plant SciencesKai M., The Effect of Kelp Fertilizer on Eruca SativaGrand Award Runner-Up – Physical SciencesBroadcom MASTERS NomineeCalifornia Science and Engineering Fair (State) Nominee1st Award Junior Division – Engineering: Electrical, Mechanical, and RoboticsGeneral Atomics Sciences Education Foundation Junior Division – Honorable MentionLemelson Early Inventor WinnerSociety of Women Engineers – San Diego County Section Junior Division – 1st PlaceUS Air Force WinnerDanielle B., Deodorant AlarmGrand Award Runner-Up – Life SciencesBroadcom MASTERS NomineeCalifornia Science and Engineering Fair (State) Nominee1st Award Junior Division – Animal SciencesSan Diego County Veterinary Medical Association Junior Division – 2nd PlaceTorrey Pines Docent Society Junior Division – Honorable MentionAva B., The Effect of Carbon Dioxide on Dinoflagellate BioluminescenceBroadcom MASTERS NomineeCalifornia Science and Engineering Fair (State) Nominee1st Award Junior Division – Engineering: Energy, Materials, & TransportAmerican Society of Civil Engineers WinnerOlivia P., Storm Drain Pollution Prevention NetBroadcom MASTERS NomineeCalifornia Science and Engineering Fair (State) Nominee1st Award Junior Division – Engineering: Energy, Materials, & TransportStella M., Portable Wheelchair RampCalifornia Science and Engineering Fair (State) Nominee,1st Award Junior Division – Engineering: Energy, Materials, & TransportMaria G., Camping Survival Tool2nd Award Junior Division – Engineering: Energy, Materials, & TransportMax B. and Atticus M., Indestructible Dog Toy2nd Award Junior Division – Engineering: Energy, Materials, & TransportOlivia M., Volleyball Serving Support Device2nd Award Junior Division – Engineering: Energy, Materials, & TransportOlivia P-C., Multus Indestructus Camping Tool2nd Award Junior Division – Product TestingMia S. and Simon K., The Effect of Paper Towel Brand on AbsorbencySociety of Women Engineers – San Diego County Section Junior Division – 3rd Place,3rd Award Junior Division – Electrical, Mechanical, and RoboticsHannah H., A Model of a Self-Producing Solar and Kinetic Energy Town3rd Award Junior Division – Animal SciencesMcKayla M., The Effect of Light and Dark on the Speed Mice Complete a Maze3rd Award Junior Division – Computer Science and Systems SoftwareSachin P., Soccer Penalty Kick Shootout Code4th Award Junior Division – Earth and Environmental SciencesThea H., The Effect of Carbon Dioxide versus Nitrogen Dioxide on Ocean pHWe are, needless to say, very proud of all of our scientists and Diana for their extraordinary work in the Greater San Diego Science and Engineering Fair 2022.
