This January, our middle school students achieved top honors in the American Mathematics Competitions (AMC 8), earning 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place amongst TCS students. The AMC 8 is a national mathematics competition for students in grades 8 and below, designed to test problem-solving and critical thinking skills.

The 25-question, 40-minute competition covers topics such as counting and probability, estimation, proportional reasoning, elementary geometry (including the Pythagorean Theorem), spatial visualization, and interpreting graphs and tables. Some later questions introduce beginning algebra, including linear and quadratic functions and coordinate geometry.

These results highlight the students’ strong mathematical abilities and their enthusiasm for tackling challenging problems.
