Our first grade friends have been learning how to write friendly letters. They learned about the format of a friendly letter:

  • Date – Goes in upper right-hand corner so the recipient knows when you wrote the letter.
  • Greeting – Goes on the left side, and is followed by the name of the person you are writing.
  • Body – Where you share what you want the recipient to read.
  • Closing – Where you wrap up the letter, like a conclusion.
  • Signature – Where you add your name.

First the students tried out their new letter writing skills by writing a letter to a friend. Next, they wrote letters to senior citizens who are in rehab facilities and aren’t allowed to have visitors right now. Click here to see pictures of some of the letters the first graders wrote to the seniors.
